Albumen Print
Photographic prints made on thin paper coated
with albumen (egg white) containing silver halides.
In use from 1850 to 1890.
Aquatint
A print reproduced from an acid etched copper plate,
resembling a watercolour in its tonal effects.
Daguerreotype
Photographic process invented by Louis Daguerre and
introduced in 1839. The unique image was produced on
a small silvered metal plate.
Engraving
A print produced from an incised woodblock
('wood engraving') or metal plate ('steel or
copper engraving').
Lithograph
A print produced from a flat wetted limestone on which
the design is drawn in grease and then coated with oily
ink which clings only to the greasy design.
Stereograph
Three-dimensional image produced by taking two photographs
from viewpoints about 65 mm apart, viewed through a
stereoscope, a device which allows each eye to see one
picture.
